The Dongfeng Fengon 580 Pro (marketed officially as the "Fengon 580 Pro" rather than "Dongfeng Xiaokang 580 Pro") is a mid-size SUV produced under the Dongfeng Fengon marque by Dongfeng Xiaokang Motor Co., Ltd. Officially launched in Chongqing on 31 July 2019, the model serves as the upgraded Pro iteration of the Dongfeng Fengon 580 lineup. As a flagship product for Dongfeng Xiaokang, the Fengon 580 has accumulated over 400,000 unit sales since its 2016 debut, with monthly figures once breaching the 20,000-unit milestone. Building upon the base model, the Fengon 580 Pro received comprehensive enhancements across its powertrain, chassis architecture, and smart tech features, targeting the "Super Urban SUV" segment whilst retaining its strong value proposition. At launch, four variants were offered across 5-, 6-, and 7-seater configurations, with official retail prices ranging from RM92,900 to RM120,900. The Fengon 580 Pro retains Dongfeng Fengon's pioneering 7-year/150,000 km super warranty, which remains tied to the vehicle's age and mileage throughout its lifespan rather than being restricted to the first owner.
Visually, the Fengon 580 Pro adopts a more dynamic, youthful styling language tailored to younger buyers. Up front, a dot-matrix starry grille replaces the horizontal chrome slats of the original 580, flanked by restyled LED headlamps to project a fresh, contemporary road presence. The rear receives a thorough makeover featuring sleeker, more sculpted tail lamps, a number plate recess relocated to the rear bumper, and the Dongfeng dual-swallow badge replaced by prominent "FENGON" lettering to elevate overall refinement and brand identity. Down the sides, it retains the 580 series' sleek profile, measuring 4,715 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, with a 2,780 mm wheelbase—marking a slight increase in overall dimensions over the standard 580. Inside, the cabin features a wrap-around cockpit generously appointed with Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery—a premium combination rarely found in the RM100,000 price bracket.
The Fengon 580 Pro range is powered entirely by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine available in two output tunes. The lower-output version (220T variant) is equipped with the SFG15TA unit pushing 110 kW (150 hp) and 220 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission; the higher-output version (280TGDI variant) runs the award-winning HD15A direct-injection turbo powerplant generating 132 kW (180 hp) and 270 Nm, mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Both powertrains meet China VI b emission standards. The CVT features 6 simulated ratios, delivering seamless power transfer and smooth driving characteristics. In terms of fuel economy, the MIIT combined fuel consumption stands at 7.5 L/100 km for the manual and 7.2 L/100 km for the CVT, supported by a 58-litre fuel tank. Kerb weight is rated at 1,590 kg for the manual and 1,650 kg for the CVT variant.
The chassis architecture represents one of the key highlights of the Fengon 580 Pro. The vehicle adopts an all-new suspension setup with front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent layout, delivering a significant upgrade over the torsion-beam non-independent rear axle of the original 580. Engineers recalibrated more than 10 critical chassis components, incorporating AR universal joints, third-generation wheel bearings, and a thicker rear anti-roll bar, while harmonising spring and damper settings to noticeably improve ride comfort and cornering stability. The Fengon 580 Pro provides four selectable drive modes—Standard, Sport, Eco, and Low Adhesion—alongside three electric power steering modes: Standard, Comfort, and Sport, allowing drivers to tailor the drive to their preference and road conditions. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) feels light at low speeds and builds weight linearly, ensuring effortless drivability. Braking is handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, working with Bosch's latest-generation ESP system to achieve a 100-0 km/h stopping distance of 39.36 metres, outperforming rival Japanese offerings such as the RAV4.
Cabin intelligence serves as a major selling point for the Fengon 580 Pro. It comes fitted with the iFlytek Feiyu OS 2.0 AI system and a massive 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, with traditional physical buttons largely eliminated from the centre stack in favour of all-screen integration. The smart voice system supports direct voice commands based on on-screen visual prompts, while non-continuous wake-up-free technology allows multiple follow-up commands within a set duration without repeated prompt words. The infotainment suite integrates GPS navigation with live traffic updates, smartphone mirroring, and telematics, alongside a dedicated smartphone app that enables remote engine start, air-conditioning controls, window and sunroof operation, and vehicle locating. Seating-wise, a 2+3+2 7-seater layout is standard (with an optional 2+2+2 6-seater setup), featuring sliding and reclining second-row seats. Boot capacity measures 375 litres in 7-seat mode, expandable to 2,215 litres with both the second and third rows folded flat. Higher-spec variants add a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, rotary gear selector, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera.
The Fengon 580 Pro is built on a high-strength cage body structure engineered to comply with C-NCAP five-star crash safety standards. On the active safety front, standard equipment across the range includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), reverse camera, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and Auto Brake Hold. CVT models also gain Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). For driving assistance, higher grades feature a 360-degree panoramic camera paired with rear parking sensors to effectively eliminate blind spots. In terms of passive safety, dual front airbags for the driver and front passenger are standard across the lineup. While basic safety features such as seatbelt reminders and LED daytime running lights are fitted as standard, passive safety remains middle-of-the-road for the RM100,000 price point, leaving room for improvement in overall airbag count compared to rivals in the segment.
Following its market launch, the Fengon 580 Pro has experienced relatively subdued sales performance. In terms of numbers, full-year 2024 deliveries for the Fengon 580 series (including the Pro variant) totaled around 2,489 units, with monthly sales dipping to just 37 units in August 2024. Moving into 2025, sales contracted further to 8 units in February 2025, sliding to 99th place in the monthly SUV sales rankings. Within the Dongfeng Fengon lineup, the 580 recorded 2,848 units in July 2024, whereas the entry-level E3 managed just 2 units in the same period, reflecting an overall brand shift toward lower-priced offerings. In terms of owner reviews, positive feedback highlights its sharp exterior styling, spacious and practical cabin, generous equipment levels, and strong value for money. However, user feedback also points to noticeable new-car cabin odour, pronounced tyre roar at highway cruising speeds, plasticky interior trim on select variants, and higher real-world fuel consumption on the CVT model (ranging between 8.4 and 14.0 L/100 km). Overall, as the Pro-badged iteration of the 580 nameplate, the Fengon 580 Pro brings substantial upgrades in its powertrain and multi-link chassis setup, establishing a distinct competitive edge in the RM100,000 mid-size SUV space through its class-leading 15.6-inch screen, iFlytek AI system, and 7-year/150,000 km warranty. Nevertheless, headwinds from fierce domestic SUV competition, accelerating NEV penetration, and modest brand pull have left its sales figures well shy of the original 580's peak five-figure monthly volumes, with its long-term market traction still awaiting further validation.
